EXCEPTIONS GRANTED: 

  • Lovett, Westminster and Galloway. Spring Break conflict (players from these schools should register for East Regional)  
  • Vanderlyn schedule conflict (players from this school should register for West Regional)

Important new policy:  No electronic scoring devices (such as ChessNoteR Monroi or eNotate) will be allowed. Players will be allowed to use personal score books. Any scorebook must be open only to the game in progress. Individual notation sheets will be provided at the tournament site.  Please bring a pen or pencil for taking notation.

 

 

Where: Chamblee Charter High School, 3688 Chamblee Dunwoody Rd, Chamblee, GA 30341

 

When: February 22, 2020. Arrive by 9:00 AM to play.

 

Eligibility: Open to all Scholastic Players whose school is in the DeKalb County, Gwinnett County, that part of Clayton County east of I-75, and that part of Fulton County east of a line running from north to south from GA 400 to I-85 to I-75. Four sections:

Middle School (6th – 8th grade)

K-5 (Kindergarten – 5th grade)

K-3 (Kindergarten – 3rd grade)

K-1 (Kindergarten – 1st grade)

Players MUST play in a section that they qualify for by their grade.  “Playing up” i.e. a 5th grader playing in the Middle School section is not allowed. 

 

Exception to the Eligibility Rules: Exceptions to this eligibility rule may only be granted by Chief TD, Scott Parker. If you feel your school absolutely needs an exception to this rule email Scott Parker (parker5025@comcast.net) no later than Feb18, 2020 (earlier is better). Please read the FAQ and the Eligibility Rules before you request an exception. Answers will be provided within 48 hours of appeal or no later than February 20, 2020, and a list of exceptions granted will be posted on the GCA website by noon February 21, 2020.

Format: Four rounds, unrated, individually paired Swiss System tournament with a time control of 25 minutes per player with a five second time delay (G/25; d5).  Unless byes are requested, each player will play all rounds (this is not an elimination tournament).

Round Times: 9:30 AM, 11:00 AM, 12:30 PM, 2:00 PM. Awards ceremony ASAP after round 4.


Byes: All requested byes are half-points. Maximum two byes allowed. Must declare during registration or by Feb 21st, 2020, 7 PM. In order to request a bye after registration, but prior to 7 PM on Feb 21st, 2020, please send an email to: statequalifier@georgiachess.org.

 

Withdrawals: You must notify a tournament director as soon as possible if you must withdraw or miss a round.

 

Morning Schedule:  

9:00 AM - 9:15 AM: Players to their board in the tournament room. Parents and coaches welcome.

9:15 AM - 9:25 AM: Tournament announcements. Parents and coaches welcome.

9:30 AM:  Round 1 begins for all sections.  Parents and coaches return to the skittles room(s).

 

Registration and Entry Fee: Entry fee is payable online. To register multiple players, click ‘add a guest' after completing the form for the first player. This way you can make one payment for all your players.  There is no onsite registration for this event and we will follow the following schedule:

 

Entry Through 2/18/20: $30/player


Entry on 2/19/20 and UNTIL 6:00PM 2/20/20: $45/player   $30/player

 

Online registration will close automatically on Thursday, Feb 20th, 2020, 5:59 pm EST (1 minute before 6PM). On-site registrations will not be accepted. No changes (except withdrawals) allowed via email on tournament day due to the size of the tournament. The registration deadline is firm for all players (even if you are requesting an exception for your player).  

 

Cancellations: Cancellations must be received by 7:00 am Saturday morning February 22, in order to receive a refund.

  

Prizes:  There are no Individual – Place trophies at this event. Ribbons to all participants. Team – Trophies to top scoring teams in each section (number of team trophies awarded will depend on section size). A team is 3 or more players in the same section from the same school – Top 5 scores are counted. If there are only one or two players from your school in your section you can still play, but cannot qualify a team to the State Team Finals.

 

Note: It is the parent's responsibility to check advanced entries online to verify that the information is correct or to have errors fixed before Round 1 begins. We will post registration updates on the website and the FINAL registration list will be posted at the tournament. Accelerated pairings may be used at the chief TD’s discretion.

Sets and boards supplied. Bring your chess clock (if you have one, not required). If one player brings a clock and requests its use both players must use the clock.

 

 

Cell phone policy:  Cell phones, smart watches, and other devices are not allowed to be on the player’s person during active play.  It is recommended that players not bring any electronic device into the tournament hall.  If player does have a cell phone or smart watch, it should be powered completely off and stored in a bag under the player’s chair.  Violations of this policy will be penalized at the discretion of the chief TD and may include a time penalty or forfeiture of game.

 

 

Photos: We may be taking photos of the chess players for possible publication on our website. Please email us if you do not want your child's photo used.
