IM Carlos Perdomo - HOF Class of 2025

One of the strongest chess players in Georgia chess history, International Master (IM) Carlos A Perdomo was born in 1975 in Bogota, Colombia.

In 2001 IM Perdomo moved to Atlanta GA and joined the Georgia Chess community, winning his first GA State Chess Championship.  Also in 2001, he had a milestone achievement of Life Master, a National U.S title awarded by the United States Chess Federation (USCF).  He repeated as Georgia State Chess Champion in 2002 and in and again in 2012 as Co-Champion.

Carlos Perdomo earned his FIDE International Master Title (IM) awarded in the 1998 at the age of 23 yrs old.  He also was the Colombian national blitz chess Champion in the year 2000.

Among his career achievements, IM Perdomo played in multiple different countries representing his native country of Colombia in two World Chess Championships (Under 14 and Under 20), and three Chess Olympiads (1 in Under Age 26 in1993 in Brazil, 1996 in Armenia and 1998 in Kalmykia).  In 2018 he participated in the World Rapid and Blitz Championship in St. Petersburg, Russia.  Also in that year he was the chess coach of a World Champion at “Chess Boxing”.

In the state of Georgia he shared the State Championship title three times (2001, 2002, and  2012).  He tied for 1st in the 2001 Georgia Open and 2001 Atlanta Open, and clear 1st in the 2001 Southern Congress.  In 2003 he was clear 1st at the Atlanta Open.

IM Perdomo founded and owns Chess Atlanta LLC, a chess company, which has provided over 20 years of chess instruction, camps, and private lessons to students of all ages.  IM Perdomo is an accomplished chess player and coach.  Many students under his guidance have received awards in the state of Georgia and beyond.

Carlos has given multiple lessons and simultaneous exhibitions in the State of Georgia and nationwide.  He was also a very popular instructor at Kid Chess Inc.  In the early 2000’s he gave simultaneous exhibitions and blindfolded exhibitions with clocks for kids and parents.  His colleagues, coaches, and students enjoyed his impressive, unique skill.  IM Perdomo’s peak FIDE regular rating in 2000 was 2411. In the year 2000, his peak USCF regular rating was 2481.

 

IM Perdomo has been a contributor for articles in Georgia Chess magazine and was also featured in the cover on multiple occasions between years 2001-2013.

Since 2019, IM Carlos Perdomo competes in chess less frequently. He now devotes most of his time to teaching/ coaching, running his company, traveling, playing sports, doing yoga, and preparing for a 70.3 Iron Man!

IM Perdomo has made significant achievements and contributions in the areas of competition (over- the -board), teaching, and coaching. He has bettered chess in the State of Georgia.
