  • GCA Board- Elections coming up in May. Deadline to submit your name March 1st.

    Would you like to be on the GCA Board? The Georgia Chess Association has 2 board positions with terms ending May 2014.  If you are interested in running for 1st Vice President or 1st Member-at-Large please email the GCA Secretary Frank Johnson and let him know you'd like to be added to the ballot.  The deadline to submit this request is March 1st.  GCA members will vote at the Annual Membership meeting held during the State Championship on May 4th.

    Congratulations to the following teams who are officially invited to the Georgia K-8 Team State Championship held March 23rd at the Marriott Perimeter Center.  1st and 2nd alternates are listed for each section in case an invited team can't make it and an alternate is needed to even out the section. (All plus score teams from the Metro Atlanta State Qualifier are invited). Registration will be up soon.

  • Castle Chess Camp - Time to Register

    It's time to register for Castle Chess camp! Minimum rating 1100, June 15-20, 2014. Register early as the camp fills up quickly.

    From their flier: The Castle Chess Camp is a nationally renowned program of chess instruction, recreation, and competition that brings together some of the best chess teachers and players from across the U.S. Now in its 14th year, the camp is recognized as one of the finest and strongest chess camps in the country. The camp is followed by the optional Castle Chess Grand Prix tournament, June 21-22, offering $12,000 in guaranteed prizes!

  • Game ON!! US Amateur Team South Championship is still ON

    The US Amateur Team South Championship will run as planned. The hotel has power, roads are clearing, sun is out, snow is melting. So far no one has canceled. Come out and play!  From the Tournament Coordinator:  "if people without teams want to come on Friday or Saturday, we will make teams or changes due to [possible] out-of-state no shows."

    We will be posting results and making decisions about State invitations as soon as we can.  We'll post everything online as well as email the parents/coaches who registered players for this event once we have news to share.  The top 5 teams from each section have automatic entry into the State Championship March 23rd at the Marriott Perimeter Center.  Many thanks to our 80 volunteers who helped run the tournament - we couldn't have done it without you.!

  • Team Rooms available at the K-8 State Qualifier

    Team rooms are available for the Qualifier for an extra charge. Rooms range in price from $210 to $275 and accommodate 24-40 people in a classroom style set up (tables to accommodate chess boards). Rooms are reserved directly from the Galleria and paid for directly (you do not need to go through the GCA.) For more information or to reserve a room, contact Eleanor Davis.
