Open to any player grade 12 and below. Cap: 150

 

4SS, G/30,d5 in rounds 1 – 4, except G/45,d5 in round 4 for the 2 top sections

 

Round Times: 10:30; 12:15; 2:00; 3:30

 

7 SECTIONS: 5 Rated Sections, USCF membership required: Under 300, Under 500, Under 800, Under 1100 and Premier for players ever rated 1100 and above. Notation is required in U-1100 and Premier. Players may play up one section if rated within 100 points of the section.

 

2 Unrated Sections: Grade 3 and Below and Grade 4 – 12 are for new players and players rated below 500. Unrated and new young players may also play in either the Under 300 or Under 500 Sections if they want to become rated. It is suggested for new young players to play at least one tournament in an unrated section and earn a plus score before playing rated.

 

Entry Fee: Advance entry received by midnight Tuesday, April 23, the cost is $29.

Late registration is $34 through midnight Tuesday, April 30. Then, $39 on Wednesday and Thursday, May 1 and 2. No online registration Friday, May 3. Onsite registration is $42. Register by 9:30am to be paired for round #1. If later, get a 1/2 point bye in Rd #1. We will post registration updates on the Website, but the FINAL registration list will be posted at the tournament. It is the parent’s responsibility to arrive by 9am to have errors fixed before Round #1 begins.

Byes: 1/2 Point Byes available only in Rounds 1-3. No byes in Round #4. Byes for Round #1 must be made when you register. Byes for Rounds 2 & 3 made when registering or before Round #1.

 

Register online at: https://www.championshipchess.net and click Register, choose Tournament, and follow steps to register and pay for Spring Fling. Current USCF ID# required to be paired for Round 1, unless playing in an unrated section. Trophies to top scores in each section and all players with plus scores. Special Chess Medals to all players in the Unrated Sections who don’t receive a trophy. Premier Section: 1st place $100 and 2nd place $50 for chess expenses, in addition to trophies. Team Trophies to top 2 schools based on most weighted points of 5 players in Rated Sections. Watch for details.

 

Tournament Director Update: Since we have Wi-Fi onsite, we plan on having online pairings and Wall Charts available at http://www.keithval.com/chess/

 

Life Master Dave Vest and other top Championship Chess Coaches will be available between rounds to review games.
