Come join the GCA at Streets Alive as we  promote chess in our great city!  Play simul with Georgia's Top Players and Bughouse too!


GCA will lead the chess outreach at Woodruff Park in partnership with Maker Faire, Soccer in the Streets and Central Atlanta Progress!



From 4-8 p.m., Sunday, June 12, the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition ( will host its second Atlanta Streets Alive  ( event of the year – this time on a 2.7 mile route through Midtown and Downtown on Peachtree Street.  The open-streets event – one of four hosted by ABC in 2016 – will be held in tandem with The Atlanta Cycling Festival. 


Atlantans of all ages are invited to explore Atlanta’s most popular street by bike, skates or foot while enjoying miles of free human-powered activities that range from music and dance to games and art. 

Atlanta’s new bike-share program’s pilot location on Peachtree Street will debut at the event, giving attendees a first glance at the city’s first mode of non-motorized public transportation.   


A few of the more than 50 free, at-event activities include:


-       Woodruff Park activation—chess games, soccer in the street, bocce ball, a DJ, and makers fair. Plus check out REI’s Pumptrack along with the Atlanta Cycling Festival village.


-       Demonstrations on how the new bike-share program works


-       BMX tricks by the The Clutch BMX team


-       Afro-Brazilian martial art demonstrations by Capoeira, where attendees are invited to learn basic movements, traditional songs, and how to play Brazilian percussion instruments
