This tournament is RATED, every player, including alternates, must have a current USCF membership to compete in this event.
Please do not begin registration until you have the following information for each player: first & last name, grade, USCF ID & expiration date, board order of the players (strongest player based on USCF Rating = player 1).
The annual GCA sponsored K-12 State Championship event is open to public, private or home-schooled teams in Metro Atlanta that have qualified through the State Qualifier. Teams outside of the metro-Atlanta area are eligible to compete! Please contact k8statechamp@georgiachess.org about competing.
State Championship titles will be awarded in five sections:
K-1 (Pre-primary)
K-3 (Primary)
K-5 (Elementary)
6-8 (Middle School)
9-12 (High School)
Format: Game/25 minutes with a five second delay (G/25; d5) for all sections. Five-player ordered board format with Swiss System pairings will be used in all rounds in all sections except K-1 which will be a four-player ordered board format. In determining standings at the end of the tournament the primary factor will be the number of match wins.
Entry fee: $225 per invited team except for Pre-primary (K-1) which is $180. Fee must be paid online at registration. On March 17, March20 Fee increases to $275 for 2-12 teams and $220 for K-1 teams. On March 20, fee increases to $375 for 2-12 teams and $300 for K-1 teams.
Registration and payment deadline is Friday, Midnight March 21, 2025. This deadline is firm. No on-site registration. Any team which has not registered by the deadline may be replaced by an alternate team. This allows us to contact alternate teams and players.
5 Boards, 5 Rounds (All sections but K-1): 10, 12-noon, 1:30pm, 3pm, 4:30pm
4 Boards, 4 Rounds (K-1 only): 10, 11:30, 1pm, 2:30 pm
Awards ceremony ASAP after completion of the last round.
Team Roster: For all sections except K-1, a school team consists of 5 to 7 full time students, although only 5 players play in any one round. Pre-Primary (K-1) team consists of 4 to 6 full time students with 4 playing in each round. Players must be ranked on the registration form in order of playing strength. This ranking will remain constant throughout the entire tournament and will strictly govern which board position the player is assigned in each round.
Coaches and team parents are required to read the Guidelines for Coaches and Team Rules Summary for updated information/rules pertaining to this state scholastic team tournament. These documents will be posted soon.

Sets and boards supplied. Please bring clocks. This is a rated tournament requiring current USCF membership for all players and alternates.
Alternate teams will be notified if a qualifying team does not register or cancels. Please note that other schools from Georgia will qualify to play and will even out sections. If you know your team can't make it, please be courteous and release your spot asap to the alternate.
